Rebel Office: SEPT Monthly Column How to Cut the Comparison
Running your own business can be exhausting. No really, it can give you some serious decision-fatigue. That’s why it’s tempting to look at what others are doing in your industry or that have a similar target market, see something working for them, and want to do it too.
But the truth is, what works for one person or business might not work for you.
When you’re thinking of bringing in a new strategy, whether it’s an automated sales funnel, a new program, or whatever it is, I want you to ask yourself the following questions:
1) Does it make sense for my brand?
2) Does it make sense for my target audience?
3) Does it give me what I want from my life & for my business?
4) And more importantly, is my energy behind it?
Comparison is particularly prevalent when it comes to marketing strategy. And sure, it’s great to be inspired, but your marketing strategy needs to be as unique as you and your brand are. So how do you cut the comparison and market your business, your way?

BE TRUE TO YOU
What’s your marketing style? If you’re an introvert and have a hard time in front of the camera, maybe blogging is more for you. If you love getting your face out there, YouTube or IGTV could be great platforms for you! Be honest with yourself, but also don’t forget to push yourself outside of your comfort zone too. Regardless of your fears, limitations, passions & skills, it’s your job to find unique ways to show up and get visible.
Some ideas for Introverts:
Blogging
Infographics & information display
Evergreen webinar funnel with presentation (ie. not your face)
Some ideas for Extroverts:
Weekly live chat
Local networking events
Live trainings (your brand and collaborating with others)
Vlogging
BE CONSISTENT
The best way to keep your energy behind your marketing is to have a plan and be consistent. Not only that, but planning ahead makes sure that you’re making decisions free from impulse and more in alignment with your overall strategy and business goals.
Staying organized helps with being consistent and always keeping a 30,000 foot view of your business. Check out the free Blog Tracker I’ve pulled together for you in the V+VxRO resources section!
KNOW YOUR IDEAL CLIENT
Do your research, get on the phone and really get to know who you’re selling to. Use this information as your sounding board instead of what other people are doing. If you need help mapping out who your ideal client is, check out our free Ideal Client Worksheet in the V+VxRO resources section.
At the end of the day, trust your gut. You know what’s right for you, and sure, it’s easy to get sidetracked, but you’ll always find your way back. You’re the boss, and you’ve got this.
