It’s the end of August as I’m trying to remember all that has happened in just one year to write a poignant blog. But we all know, I’m not poignant. And let’s be real- 2020 has taught us that A LOT can happen in just one year. During all the change- the good and the bad -we all have survived, albeit with some emotional fatigue and possibly a couple of bruises to our souls but we’re still here. So instead of talking about my birthday, the goals I’ve met and didn’t meet, I’d like to reflect on the things I know for sure.
So what I know for sure as I shed another year as an imperfect human, friend, sister, daughter, partner, and CEO is that change is inevitable and it can be a scary and beautiful thing at the same damn time.
What I know for sure is that we’re learning.
What I know for sure is that we are more grown than where we were at the beginning of the year.
What I know for sure is that most of us can adapt- some kicking and screaming -but we all get there eventually.
What I know for sure is that the people we surround ourselves with truly impact our lives in ways we never thought.
What I know for sure is that the direction all of us are heading in as individuals and as a unit is way better than where we were beforehand.
What I know for sure is that thinking of “us” instead of “I” gets shit done.
What I know for sure is that patience is truly a virtue.
What I know for sure is that we should lend grace to everyone around us even if their views want to make us walk out of the room.
What I know for sure is that we have to persevere. Not just for ourselves, our businesses, our lives but for every single person in this world. No matter the race, color or creed.
What I know for sure is that being uncomfortable is a good thing.
What I know for sure is that trusting your gut is foolproof.
What I know for sure is if you don’t adapt, you’re left behind.
What I know for sure is that the way mid-morning light hits your open windows on a fall weekend is truly one of the best simple sensory experiences.
What I know for sure is that your value doesn’t decrease just because someone can’t see your worth.
What I know for sure is that your dreams and goals don’t disappear. They’ll come back with a vengeance forcing you to make sacrifices.
What I know for sure is that your direction is more important than your speed.
What I know for sure is that you need to be prepared to receive what it is you ask for.
What I know for sure is that the magic is in the creating and doing, not in the finished product.
What I know for sure is that comparing yourself to others on social media gets you nowhere. Every single person is different. We don’t have the whole story. We don’t know how a person got there. If we did, we’d compare less and show more compassion.
What I know for sure is that people who dare to entertain their creativity tend to be much happier and whole.
What I know for sure is that I’m bigger than my anxiety.
What I know for sure is that progress is always better than perfection.
In fact, I know for sure that perfect in any sense is lame and leaves no room for growth.
What I know for sure is that leading a balanced life is difficult but it’s worth it when the scales adjust equally a couple of times.
What I know for sure is that in order to experience all these sure things is that your health, body and mind, need to be a top priority at all times.
What I know for sure is that we always make it out on the other side.
What I know for sure is that despite all those changes I have personally experienced at 28, it was an incredible year and 29 is going to be just as magical.
Cheers,
Kristen
