My Favorite Ways to Practice Self-Care

Ladies, let’s get real. We work hard, we (sometimes) play hard, but we never really give ourselves the break we need. When managing your own business it can feel like all the responsibility is on you, which means you’re often working overtime to get everything done. But your business can’t run unless you’re physically and mentally healthy, which is why self care is so important.

Need some ideas? Check out a few of my favorite ways to relax and recharge after a long work week.

Spa Day

Whether it’s at home or at a real spa, get your relaxation on with a spa day! If you’re at home, set the mood by lighting some candles and playing your favorite relaxing music playlist. Then grab a glass of wine or whip up some refreshing fruit-infused water like this strawberry cucumber recipe. Once you’re ready, grab a hydrating face mask and your favorite nail polish for a DIY mani/pedi. Oh, and if you have a significant other, recruit them for a little back or foot massage :).

If your hubby is, well, less than an ideal masseuse, be sure to check out Groupon for spa deals and #treatyourself!

Bingeing

If you’d rather watch than read, treat yourself to an afternoon or day of binge watching. Pop that popcorn, pull up your favorite classic show, that movie you’ve been meaning to watch, or a girlboss show that’ll inspire, and relax! According to Doctor John Mayer Ph. D, binge watching “acts like a steel door that blocks our brains from thinking about those constant stressors that force themselves into our thoughts.” So take a break from all that stress for a moment!

Day Date (with yourself!)

Sometimes the best way to check in with yourself is to go out with yourself. Is there a new restaurant you’ve been meaning to try out? A store downtown you love? Grab your journal or a favorite book, find a good glass of wine, and just enjoy exploring your area. One of my favorite ways to do this is going to a museum. It can be fun to play tourist in your own city- you never know what you might discover!

If you want to sustain productivity and avoid burnout, self-care is the way to go. Whether it’s five minutes at the end of every day or a full weekend of treating yourself, make time for you because when you thrive, your business thrives.
